Vote for the 2024 Sioux City Reads Book!

Join the Sioux City Public Library for Sioux City Reads, a community-based reading initiative where Sioux Cityans are involved every step of the way – from book selection to completing challenges and attending book discussions.

Now through September 30, cast your vote to help select the next Sioux City Reads title at SiouxCityLibrary.org/siouxcityreads. Copies of each book are available for check out at any Sioux City Public Library location or through the Libby App.

Vote for one of the following four exciting books:

The Haunting of Alejandra by V. Castro – A woman is haunted by the Mexican folk demon La Llorona as she unravels the dark secrets of her family history in this ravishing and bold horror novel.

Monsters: A Fan’s Dilemma by Claire Dederer – A timely, passionate, provocative, blisteringly smart interrogation of how we make and experience art in the age of cancel culture, and of the link between genius and monstrosity.

Take What You Need by Idra Novey – Set against a backdrop of artistic ambition and rural poverty, two determined, unforgettable female voices give insight to the complicated feelings of a young woman and her former stepmother.

The Brightest Star by Gail Tsukiyama – A magnificent historical novel based on the life of the groundbreaking actress Anna May Wong—the first and only Asian American woman to gain movie stardom in the early days of Hollywood.

The winner will be announced later this fall and will serve as inspiration for events, discussions, and Beanstack challenges throughout the upcoming 2024 Sioux City Reads initiative.
